Well, here she is. The original blue throne.

The bathroom was functional, and with so much to do, we decided to leave it until later. That is... until I saw the workers installing the slate in the front and back porch. We could have the bathroom floor completed also. I realized this was an opportunity I should not squander. While holding our one week old in my arms, I mentioned to The (sleep deprived) Agronomist that before we moved in, we should at least do a bit of a makeover. He was so tired, he simply grunted and fell asleep leaning against the wall. I took that as a yes, and we were on our way.
Once we started thinking about paint, (with only five days to go before moving in) the whole bathroom project exploded. Perhaps the term exploded isn't really the best word to use here, but the bathroom renovation became a very urgent sprint to the finish line.
As you can see the throne and tub were removed and replaced with stately white ones.

To make things simple, we decided to copy the bathroom we had renovated in our first bungalow, which had been inspired by my cousin's bathroom in Oakville. She has since moved and her new home was recently featured in one of Canada's premier home magazines, Style At Home.

We didn't have the money for a new vanity, so it was painted and trim work was added, along with new library pulls on the drawers. The vanity was soo short it only came up to our thighs, so it was also raised by eight inches, and a new arborite top was added to match the new tile flooring.

As you can see, some patching has been started as the bathroom is in dire need of new paint. At this point I'm not sure if I will do anything drastically different here. I have considered an all white bathroom, but feel it might be too austere during our winter months here in Northern Canada. The light is very different during these months as well and often has a cooler cast to it.

(often the door is left open and guests can see the bathroom at the end of the hallway from the dining room...how lovely is that? All the more reason for it to be beautifully done!)
I may lighten the paint color, and use the bamboo picture above as inspiration to find ways to have hits of colour.
Today (view from the throne)
Currently everything is very calm and serene. It is one of my favourite rooms in the house. It will receive a paint makeover. I will be scouring pictures for inspiration before I make any decisions.
Thank goodness we went ahead with the last minute re-do. I have no doubt that once we moved in, the blue fixtures would likely still be with us today.
I will start looking for my colour palette inspiration for the main floor and present what I've found here. What happens in one room will flow into the other, and I am excited about creating a new look.
I know I will still struggle with decision making, due to my acute analysis paralysis, so I hope you will feel free to yay or nay any of the choices I will be presenting.
Up next... the bedrooms.
