"We read to know we are not alone." ~ C.S. Lewis |
Our house is filled with readers.
This I know.
What a lovely twist of fate that our new library was built a hop,
skip and jump from the Bungalow.
The large TV sitting in our newly developed basement?
Remains dark and blank most days.
Books however?
Are a continuing phase.
To read is to dream.
And to dream is to fly.
I want my girls to find their wings.
And with their books... reach the sky.
We had a TV ban last week, the amount of reading that got done was amazing and it was only this week when it got put on again that I realised just how noisey and grating on the nerves it is.

Oh I love this. Also our TV is on pretty much only for trashy reality TV. I blame it on my love for People magazine..which in a way IS reading...thus, my TV time is perfectly justified. ;) xo
ReplyDeleteI watch very little TV. Love that photo!
ReplyDeleteI love building pictures from words I am reading rather than seeing them on T.V. Glad your girls do too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo! A lazy summer day in the making.
ReplyDeleteoh Dana to have a library within walking distance! In the town we just moved from we had that and I miss it terribly! I hate tv...ok except for Mad Men :) And I love that C.S.Lewis quote. My children are great readers too..what are you reading these days? Is there nothing more exciting than having a stack of books to read on your nightstand?
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great to have kids that love to read! I love that they are in tandem!
ReplyDeleteWould thrill my heart! And a library that close? My family would never see me during library hours!
ReplyDeleteReading is one of the great pleasures in life. Too bad so many miss out.
ReplyDeleteDana, i love all your posts, but i'm DYING for a full basement reveal! :)
ReplyDeleteWe are book lovers in this house as well!
ReplyDeleteHa! I love it - we too love our books ... and I love that we love our books :) my 10-year-old has been consumed lately by lemony snickets series of unfortunate events, so fun! dying to know what your middlest is loving - it seems the choices for that age are all over the place - either too junior or too racy ... sigh ...
ReplyDeleteGood for you and great for your girls. My kiddos were and still are readers today.
ReplyDeleteNow, their children are readers. It's wonderful to see the soar!
Cute, cute picture sweetie.
God bless and have a terrific day!!! :o)
Love that they are reading together1
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. We are a family of readers, too.
ReplyDeleteI've loved books since childhood, despite the fact that my hometown and my elementary school had no library. My mom tells me that the bookmobile stopped in my hometown for probably the LAST time today. Budget cuts. I'm working with the founders of the Little Free Library and with leaders from my tiny hometown to get a LFL onto Main Street.
I love this! My girls and I are big, huge fans of reading, too. We'd much rather read than watch TV. Heck, we'd almost rather read than eat ;) We spend two homeschooling days each week at the library, and I used to own a bookstore. So, yeah, reading is in our blood. Glad to see you guys love it, too. Visiting from Sweet Shot Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteCute pic and great poem to boot - so creative!
ReplyDeleteBooks really are the food for imagination...I would rather choose to read the book rather than watch the movie.
ReplyDeleteUs too and good for you...raising them right! And that shot is priceless? :)
ReplyDeleteAwww...love the poetry, and the photo shoot!!
ReplyDeleteYou rock!!
