At Least It Wasn't A Tattoo

Remember this girl?
Well she's gone.
This Sweet Shot is all I have left.
Before her trip to the Big City with her class, she decided she needed a new look.
I was skeptical.
I liked the way she looked.
All springy and coily, all romantic and loopy.
But she was not embracing the springy, romantic loops, no matter how much I whined and pleaded with her to keep them.
She had been begging to get her hair cut for months now.
She hated the frizz and tangles.
I, on the other hand, had been putting her off for those same months.
I loved her frizz and tangles.
You see? I secretly called them... curls.
But she knew what she wanted.
She knew it was all semantics.
Curls/frizz, potatoe/potahtoe.
She also knew she was old enough to make her own hair decisions.
And she finally got mad, picked up the phone and held it to my ear.
I made the appointment under duress.
Luckily for us, we have a wonderful hairdresser.
She made the process painless.
She is always so positive and happy.
The girls like her. I like her.
She likes to laugh. It's a big likefest.
Plus she gives a great cut.
A bonus really.
My daughter was so thrilled, with the lack of fuzz and tangles she didn't even notice the weirdo in the salon taking tons of pictures.
She didn't get mad at me once.
I think I could safely say she was "Tickled Pink"
When will I learn, that they know a thing or two about how to look good.
I'm going to have to get used to this.

Where is my daughter?
The one with the curls.
Has anyone seen her?

Since we returned home, I've been following her with a spray water bottle.
Who knew that with just a few spritzes the curls return?

I'm happy, she's happy.

Frizz or no Frizz.

I've managed to cope. It's not permanent... hair grows back.

At Least...

It Wasn't A Tattoo.

  2. {lol-love your last comment there!}
she is beautiful, curls or not... i just had a similar experience, with my 14 yo skater-cut sporting dude... sigh... buzz, buzz... and i keep telling myself, too, that it will grow back! :)

  3. It looks great! I remember really clearly doing the same thing and really loving the new look. Stopping by from SITS :)

  5. OH I had to laugh when I read this this morning... You see, we are having the opposite situation. Our 16 year old track running/American football playing/diver/extreme sports wannabe has decided the adorable buzz cut is well no longer adorable. He is embracing the curls (I secretly think a girl is involved but he won't admit it!), he's loving the mussy bed head look plus the ringlets at the back of his neck and around his ears. I keep reminding myself it is just a phase... There have been no added colors, no piercings, or tattoos (thank goodness he is dreadfully opposed to such ideas!)

Hope you have a great week!!

  6. Oh Dana,

Another precious story with your GORGEOUS girls! Thanks for sharing the experience. I have hair exactly like your daughters. I finally gave in a few years ago, got it cut and let the lady flat iron mine. No turning back for me.

I know my grand-daughter will do this one day too. She's only 5, and she has my hair. So far she loves it.

Can't wait to hear about her trip!

  7. She looks so grown up! I had curly hair growing up [it's more wavy now], and it's pretty neat to be able to have big curls or straight hair, depending on how we want to style it that day!

She beautiful with or without the curls. But trust me, as a curly girl...curls can be tedious! And I can pretty well guarantee you'll be seeing those curls a lot as she grows and goes back and forth with different styles.

  9. nobody knows that i own frizzy curls. nobody. and that's how i like it. my flatiron and i are bffs.

she is so pretty with curls or with it blown out. my daughter also has gorgeous curls that she battles every day. Someday she will embrace them I hope. Until then, the blow dryer and her flat iron are her constant companions. And I am with you on the piercings and tattoos.

  11. Sigh. I was the same way.

When I look back at the 253 yr old pictures of my youth, and I see all those glorious, thick, shiny curls...what was I thinking using a REAL iron and ironing board with a towel layed over to striaghten?

My mother would cry and ring her hands, and I'd toss my silkystraight hair over my shoulder and scoff.

Oh, what I would give for those ringlets now instead of the tired 3 pieces of hay left on my head.

YOUR DAUGHTER IS BEAUTIFUL EITHER WAY. DON"T MAKE A LICK OF DIFFERENCE WHAT SHE DOES WITH HER HAIR.

But enjoyed the moment of relating...from both sides.

  12. I was the opposite when I was younger, my mum wanted my hair cut to avoid the frizz...and I instead insisted on growing my hair out long! I'm still glad I did, since I haven't cut it in a dramatic way yet!

  13. Awww...

I cried the first few times my son got haircuts....who knew two inches of blond hair could do so much to your heart?

    And she is so lovely!

But, you might want to brace yourself for the piercing/tattoo battle. Start rehearsing your lines now. Loudly. In the car, maybe. ; )

  14. Way to go Mom! Love her new look!

  15. Wait until she dyes her hair. My daughter, who also has beautiful springy curls, colored her brown hair black. It didn't fit her skin tone or her, but there was no stopping my determined college girl. At that age, I really had no say. But...the color eventually washed out (like in a year)...

  16. Oh hilarious.
She looks beautiful. As someone with curls/frizz, I sympathize. I'm in the curly mode though, cause i don't have time for straightening anymore...but it's true, we feel so unkempt with waves instead of straight smooth hair. I blame the media. When in doubt, blame the media!

  17. Hey, Dana! Thanks SO much for hopping over to my blog! And, for your sweet comments! Please visit anytime!

Love your blog!!! And the pictures are lovely! Your daughters are beautiful! I have 2 boys and when I pull out the camera....mercy!! They hide! Enjoy this time!!

I would LOVE to know how you have your pictures posted on your blog--they are large and look like mine do on the computer--just not on the blog (which shrinks them down!) Thanks!!
    Hugs!

All the Przybylski girls agree it's a beautiful haircut. We also have one request for a Calgary piece. Can't just cover the Edmonton part of your trip, you need to send a little love down south!

  22. It's being fluffed and edited as you read this! I would never forget the Polish contingent of our trip! Plus I have to make you look as good as possible. It's the least I can do for my sis!

  23. Oh, good for her! She looks great. And kudos to you for finding some kind of peace about it.
I would be a pile of mush about it too!

  24. Your daughter is sooooo pretty - curly or straight hair!!! :)

  25. Awww! Growing up ~ sniff, sniff. It's always harder on mom, I think.

I think my husband would cry *real* tears if my daughter cut her hair.

  26. Ah yes, a familiar struggle... My youngest piXie has a crown of curls which she considers bothersome and unruly. I, on the other hand, love her ringlets (and secretly wish they were mine)! Like your darling daughter, she's got a mind of her own. The nerve! ;-) Fantastic photo journalism piece.

Lovely cut. Not too drastic from what I can see but definitely changed.

Hopping over from ToBeThode Saturday Sound Off!

  32. I know her pain. 35 years old here and my mom still gives me grief on straightening my hair when I get ready to go out. LOL

When we are out and I get compliments on my curls, she's all can you believe she hates them? She straightens them all the time and I just don't get it. .......and it goes on and on.

That being said, I'm waiting for the day when my 6 year old wants to cut her hair. It's down to her waist almost. And curly. :) She won't even go for a trim. I just wanted to have it evened up. Nope.

    Your daughter looks beautiful!
