Sometimes God Gives You A Glimpse

Sometimes God gives you a glimpse.
A glimpse into other peoples lives.
Lives that are sometimes broken and bandaged.

Sometimes God gives you a glimpse into your daughter's heart.
A glimpse into her hopes and dreams.
Hopes and dreams that can sometimes be dashed by others.

Sometimes God gives you a glimpse and all you want to do is shut your eyes.
A glimpse of something you would rather not see.
Because it makes you feel helpless.

Sometimes God gives you a glimpse so that you will know how blessed you are.
A glimpse that humbles you.
Because you wonder what you did to deserve this life.

Sometimes God gives you a glimpse so that you might help.
A glimpse that may keep you up all night.
Because it frightens you.

Sometimes God gives you a glimpse.
And you need to have faith.
And you need to pray.
And you need to be thankful.
That he trusted you with it.

Sometimes God gives you a glimpse of the black.
And he asks you to find the colour.

And you do.

Because that is the kind of world you want for your children.

     xoxo,

About this blog carnival: The world I want for my children” is an effort to support The Joyful Heart Foundation, which was founded by Law & Order: SVU actress Mariska Hargitay to help victims of sexual assault mend their minds, bodies and spirits and reclaim their lives.  Today, the foundation is at the forefront of an effort to end a disheartening backlog of tens of thousands of rape kits in labs across the country, a backlog that contributes to a rapist’s 80 percent chance of getting away with his crime.  The backlog and its detrimental effects will be the topic of an SVU episode on September 29th
Please help us raise awareness for this important work.  What kind of world do you want for your children? Write your post and link up here.
------------------------------------------------------

*note~ *Every Post linking up to Joyful Heart Foundation brings the backlog of kits closer to an end.*

Please don't worry, all is good at Bungalow'56.
We are experiencing a few growing pains in the high school of "hard knocks." Whoever (me) thought parenting became easier as your children got older?  Had it all wrong. These past few days have allowed me to truly appreciate the life that I have.  It is a gift I unwrap daily.

This post will also be shared with Tuesdays Unwrapped and Sweet Shot Tuesday

  3. WOW.. .isn't it hard as moms to have faith, when it comes to our children? Its kind of like our mama bear instinct overrides our faith in God!

  5. It is so good to be reminded of our blessings, while at the same time seeing clearly into others' struggles, and knowing how to pray...

    Thank you for this glimpse.

  8. I'm glad your blog was a way to work through that. What a hard thing to have to see. Did the girls see it too?

  9. As the parent of an 18 and 17 year old I agree that it does get much harder as they get older. But the eldest is at college now and things seem to be easing up. Keep your chin up ... your girls are lovely and strong and you are an excellent mother. You will be there for them through whatever ups and downs they go through and I truly believe that that makes the difference.

I'm posting anonymously today because I am a victim of sexual assault and wanted to thank you for posting that link and your beautiful post today.

  16. I was doing alright, till I got to the B/W of the closed door but the light still being able to come through and create it's own light.

Then, I was a crumpled heap on the floor.

Pictures are worth a thousand words.

You have to have me over for a week, Dana. And teach me how to do this. I know it's much more than just having a camera, it's knowing what to capture.

Thanks for linking up, dear woman, thank you.

  17. I grew up in a world of abuse-the black and white of it.

As an adult and mother, I search out the color to share with my daughter everyday. Thanks for this beautiful reminder.

    Praying for your family today.

  19. Until you hit a "wall" as a parent, you really have no idea that life can be so dark and difficult, changing an optimist into a questioner...
BUT - oh the hope that peeks through when even the slightest glimpse of colour is found. God makes a tiny tint look like a rainbow as He shows us His grace.
    Amazing post. Amazing God.

  21. We could probably do coffee and talk!!:) Beautiful, haunting, faith-filled! Your post was SO on the mark! And, about that high school of hard knocks? It was a breeze with my first one; my second one has taught me what it feels like to walk through life blind-folded taking each step faith-by faith!!!!

I love that you took the challenges in life - and encouraged your readers to look beyond that and find the beautiful, the hope!! I am so wanting to do a post on "seeing the black and looking for the color." So many divorce care programs for kids focus on the black of their lives instead of focusing on the color of where they want to go!!!! Yours so far is simply my very fav!!! (and I don't like to pick favorites, unless it's a restaurant))

If you'd like to take a look when you have some time, you can find it here. http://liveandloveoutloud.com/2010/06/04/child-sexual-abuse-ill-never-forget-what-he-did-to-me/
Thank you so much for stumbling my post. I stumbled yours as well and wrote the review. :) Thanks again Dana.
