A Good Eats Segment: A Popeye-esque Quiche

I only include Good Eats posts that I could make myself.  
You see, in general, I do not cook.  I boil and I thaw. I boil really well.
Therefore I believe this recipe could be made by a monkey.  
This theory has not been tested, but I stand by it regardless. 
 I know you want to get a little closer.  Go ahead, it's a scratch and sniff screen.
No.
 Really.
 It is.


Isn't that amazing?
The picture of the quiche in the magazine is exactly like the picture of my mom's quiche?
How did they do that?

You see, my mom is a magician in the kitchen.   
She does this trick, where she finds a recipe in a book and then replicates it....exactly.  

It was a gene that skipped my pool.
My sister's pools are filled with these genes, while mine seemed to overflow with other things. 
The need to write a blog for instance, or in my formative years, the need to stand on a stage while reciting dialogue in front of an audience.

Cooking it would seem is not a dramatic enough endeavor for the likes of me?

I have no control over my genetic disposition, and so I've learned to accept my cooking impaired genetic code.
Baking?  That I can do,  but cooking is a cross I've learned to bear.

Thank goodness we live near my mom who tries to help with my condition in any way she can.  
With her assistance my girls do in fact realize there is a connection between a recipe and a delicious dish.

My Mom gave me the recipe.  It really looks easy. 
She knows I will lose interest after the fifth ingredient, so I think I may be able to pull this one off.
It's packed full of spinach and is... oh so tasty and did I mention easy.

Wanna see it? Do you wanna?
I know you wanna.

So here it is: For your convenience I will be highlighting easy alternatives.

Farm Fresh Spinach Quiche 
contributed to the 2009 Gooseberry Patch magazine by Margaret Sloan of Westerville, OH
(Don't worry if you don't live on a farm, my understanding is that the name is for promotional purposes only)

8 slices bacon, crisply cooked, crumbled and divided (a little birdie told me you can buy this precooked)
2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese (wouldn't you know you can buy this pre shredded?)
9-inch pie crust (the above little birdie's cousin mentioned that these too, can be purchased pre-made)
10-oz pkg. frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained (easy peasy)
1 1/2 cup milk
3 eggs, beaten
1 T. all purpose flour

Sprinkle half of the crumbled (bought) bacon on bottom of pie crust.  Mix (pre-shredded) cheese, spinach, eggs and flour together.  Pour over crust.  Sprinkle remaining crumbled bacon on top. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour or until center is set. 

Makes 8 servings.

Thats it!  Can you believe it?!  And it is soo very very yummy, and so very very easy.

    I detest cooking too. But baking, ah, I love that.

    God has blessed you with plenty of other talents, Dana. So leave the cooking to others (I know, tough to do when you're the mom), and focus on your artistic talents. You're great at that!

    I can absolutely relate Dana! My sister inherited my mom's talent and LOVE for cooking and baking and I certainly missed out on this gift. It's a long running joke for them. They are fearless in the kitchen and completely at home there. I too "lose interest" after the 5th ingredient and find it so hard to be patient. I keep thinking that if I buy really nice kitchen gadgets and accessories a miracle will happen and I'll turn into the kitchen goddess I was always meant to be.
