Thank God It's Friday... Let's Have Some Music And Dancing

It's so good to finally have Friday arrive.
It's been a busy week... which I will share with you in Random snippets.
My brain is wired for randomness.
It's how I work, so you can imagine how incredibly hard blogging can be for me.
Here is my secret.
The pictures keep me focused.

The Music Festival is finally over
and we've enjoyed both our youngest and middle daughter's final performances.

Our youngest was quite nervous as this was her first time participating in the festival.
Once she had her first piece under her belt which you can read about here,
she realized that dressing up was part of the fun.

Can you guess what the name of her song was?

That's correct....

Balloons by Linda Niameth.

This adjudicator was also wonderful.
Not the old crotchety type one of my commenters fondly remembers having to play for.
She made our youngest happily float off that bench.

Today was my middle child's turn to play her last piece.
You may be wondering why I have a picture of pretzel's then?

Well after supper, last night, she decided she was going to make pretzel's.
Has she ever made pretzel's before?
No, she just happened upon a recipe and that was all there was to it.

It's what she needed to do, to relax before her big performance I guess?

Who is this child?
Was she switched at birth?
She made pretzel's.
She's ten.

After almost 15 years of calling myself a mother
I would like to weigh in on the Nurture or Nature debate... the socialization vs. genetic predisposition.

GENETICS my friends....GENETICS!
My proof... homemade pretzels.

Since this is my blog about my family,
I am not prone to playing down their awesomeness.
Humble Shmumble.
I am proud to announce she received a gold with the highest mark in her class.

I took this picture and immediately felt it wasn't quite as good as I wanted.
So I asked nicely, then cajoled, and finally demanded that she allow me a second shot.

So what if a boy from her class and his family were walking down the hallway towards us?  Yeesh!

My job here is done.
Thank you.
(This parenting moment once again brought to you by Bungalow'56)

The frenetic driving, picking up, dropping off,
and overall mess that has piled up on the home front is about to be addressed.

But first a big celebration for all the wonderful hard work the girl's did with a supper at THE KEG steakhouse.
(They are definitely their father's daughters....back to the genetic thing I mentioned.)
::~~~~~~~~~~~~::

I have been thinking about a conversation with a mother I had yesterday,
and her children do not participate in the festival or in exams.

She always tells them she loves them for who they are, not what they do.

It really resonated with me... and I hope my girls know that that is always the case here at Bungalow'56.
::~~~~~~~~~~~~::

Are you still with me? Because I'm on my way down another road here...

If you are a fan of Dancing With The Stars and So You Think You Can Dance,
you should probably watch this....to see how it's really done.

Ladies, you may have to catch your breath a few times and have to dampen your brow.
It is that kind of Dance.
By the way... The Agronomist and I dance like this all the time.
::~~~~~~~~~~~~::

And speaking of Dancers, remember my cool sister?

and her equally cool husband?

Well... they were especially busy this past week, when they welcomed their son into the world.

And as I suspected,
he arrived with a certain pinache,
and fashion sense not usually found in most newborns...thus I would like reiterate my point....

Genetics people... cool Parents....cool Kids.

Congratulations Sis and British Bro!

Have a Wonderful weekend,

Over and Out from a very Messy Bungalow'56 indeed,

     xo

  1. If I had those hair balloons I would wear them every day - and if I had motivation, I would make homemade pretzels!

  5. Hi! Just found you at Views from my kitchen sink.
    Cool parents...cool kids...I love it!
And that picture of your daughter giving you that look, I have one just like it of my daughter. Her lips were in the ready position to say "Maah-uuum" and her eyes were big and scary. I have to find a way to post it!
    Have a great weekend.

That 7 Fingers act has been one of my favourites for years! It's truly one of the world's best Hand to Hand acts in circus, in my opinion at least. amazing.
So heartwarming to read about and see the girls perform at the concert- BIG congratulations to them.

  7. David and JJ:

I hope my son somehow ends up even just a smidge as cool as your wonderful daughters! Kids are so lucky they get to wear costumes. I love the balloons and parisian flair outfits.

I love them and miss them so much. Can't wait for 'August'! (Which funnily enough was also on our list of names for boys)

Thanks for the baby mention. In the photo with me in the cowboy hat, that is the first rodeo David had ever been to. He is looking at me funny because when I get wild and crazy he tells me I'm 'getting a little AB'.

  10. Hi Dana thanks for stopping by my blog and the kind words! Your photography is amazing!! It is amazing how fast the time goes by, 20 years of marriage, a 12 & 8 yr. old daughter & son. But of course I still feel like I'm in my 20's, ok maybe 30's!! Where are you in Canada my friend? I've only ever been to Toronto, loved it! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Stephanie

  11. Dana,
Glad you stopped by, come again. I laughed at your Tim Horton coffee post - our daughter lived in NY and she introduced us to 'Tim' - good stuff!! Legendary.
    Blessings!

  13. Love this entire post, but no surprise because I love your blog. As for humility, I agree. Save the humility for the PTA meetings; I love reading about your girls' accomplishments. And those balloons... and home-made pretzels! Wow!

Congratulations to your sister and brother-in-law as well!

  14. Thanks for visiting my blog(s). Now I want some homemade pretzels. It's actually my husband who's the Canadian, and he has somehow convinced the children they are more Canadian than American (especially the one who was born in Canada). I do miss a lot of things about living there though . . . like The Keg!
