Lazy Lasagna: A Scene Stealer

PS. . . IF YOU ARE NOT A FOODIE
CLICK ON OVER HERE TO YESTERDAY'S FUN POST...IT'S SURE TO MAKE YOU SMILE!
OTHERWISE ENJOY THE UNFOLDING OF A DRAMATIC RECIPE. . .

OK...so maybe I can cook a little.
As long as the recipe has the word Lazy or Easy as part of the Title!
I always want something with a dramatic ending,
with the least amount of effort on my part.

Here is the cast of characters,
minus the raw ground beef and onion.
(Paul Newman's Own Sockarooni Sauce is our favourite leading man)

The first steamy scene involves the cooking of the beef,
followed by the chopping of the onion, I'm sorry but the violence was necessary.
Garlic and Salt were thrown into the mix.
And the Spaghetti sauce came to the rescue.

The noodles and meat mixture have great chemistry.

They created a match made in heaven, otherwise known as Hamburger Helper.

I suppose you could stop here,
but then again you wouldn't be able to experience the dramatic ending...

1st layer:  Meat Mixture, all snuggled in with Noodles

2nd Layer: Cottage Cheese,  left in a mound.
But witnesses wouldn't talk.

A close up of all that creamy, cottagy goodness... just because I thought you would appreciate it...
 and also
I wouldn't want you to have mistakenly left the cottage cheese as it was.
Creating a cover is its role, for the plot to thicken.

3rd Layer:  Cheese
An Italian is always involved.

4th Layer:  The Meat Mixture mingles with Noodles some more.
They sure do get around.

5th Layer:   1 cup of reserved Meat Mixture to cover up the obvious.
and
Mr. Mozza
( I wouldn't be surprised if he was da Boss)

A close up of the Cheese... just in case you were wondering if someone got away.

The case is closed, and ready for the oven.

The mystery is solved.

It looks like Lasagna....and tastes like Lasagna.... but just a little bit easier.

A Scene Stealer wherever he goes!

LAZY LASAGNA

1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
dash of garlic powder
(or minced garlic if you're so inclined)
1/2 tsp salt
1 3/4 cup spaghetti sauce

6 oz. spiral noodles, cooked and drained (uncooked weight)
1 cup cottage cheese
2 and 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
grated Parmesan cheese ( I didn't have any and it was fine)

Brown beef with the next three ingredients.
Remove 1 cup of sauce for later.
Stir cooked noodles into mixture.

Place half of the meat/noodle mixture in greased 2 quart casserole dish.
Cover with the cottage cheese and 1 cup mozzarella cheese.
Add remaining meat/noodle mixture.
Top with 1 cup reserved meat sauce and then the rest of the cheese.
Sprinkle with Parmesan.

Bake at 350 F for 20-25 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes.
Yields 6 to 8 servings.

ENJOY!

We have been.
I made this for a class potluck last night
The girls also took some for lunch today, and guess what we're having tonight?
They like it that much : )

  1. Looks like you've found a recipe destined to become a family favorite! Paul Newman's Sockarooni is our family favorite too - when we were kids it's the sauce our Mom bought and we loved the name of it! Don't tell anyone though - as Italians we're not supposed to buy our 'gravy' in a jar!
