I got this sweet shot of my eldest on New Year's Eve.
We were invited to a farm just outside of town to welcome in the New Year.
Our friends said we could enjoy a family skate on their dugout.
They forgot to mention it was the size of a football field.
And that I would need a defibrillator after skating to one end and back.
We were thrilled to have gotten our annual outdoor skating photo.
We have managed to take one every year for the past twelve.
...unfortunately The Agronomist forgot to shave before we went.
But as you know, those family shots are hard to get, so we'll take them anyway we can.
While the guys played a pick up game of hockey.
I did a few Salchow jumps and crossed over into a Camel spin.
We then took a few more photo ops....
And while taking a shot of our amazing host and her daughter
I asked what the building was behind them?
She told me it was a heated shack for us to warm up in, and in it...
were some snacks and hot chocolate for all to enjoy.
I quietly thanked them and slowly and demurely made my way to the cabin.
I may, or may not have, done a few lutzes and triple toe loops along the way.
the kids, continued into the evening, riding GT sleds behind a quad,
while also driving very cool retro snowmobile's. For some reason I forgot to get a picture of them.
I think it was because I refused to leave the cabin and its wood stove for the remainder of the evening.
The revelry continued up at the house, and I was lured there, with delicious food and laugh out loud games. Fun was had by all!
To cap it all off?
We enjoyed a display of fireworks down on the pond.
Really... we did.
There. were. fireworks.
You'll just have to trust me on that.
xoxo
PS
I don't know how to figure skate.
I just like writing all the cool technical figure skating terms.
The photo was just me trying to stop myself from falling....
which is, I suppose, a figure skating move.
Just not one you get any points for.
This post will be linking up with Darcy at LifewithMy3Boybarians for Sweet Shot Tuesday.
Come and see all of the wonderful photo's others have shared!
How fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to know what your temp is right now. Frost in the hair?

I love your new hair do BTW, very chic!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun to pretend that you can do all those fancy tricks. . .I am impressed that you can spell them!
Oh what fun! We haven't gone skating on the lake since the kids were little. It never quite freezes over enough for safety with the chinook winds around here.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that you look so good while preventing yourself from falling. :v)
Hee! Was gonna say that I wanted video of those lutzes and loops!
ReplyDeleteAnd that just isn't a world that I experience down here in California.
At least, MY part of California.
Love the shots, of course I am impressed with anyone who can actually move on ice skates! LOL
ReplyDeleteLooks like a ton of fun!
ReplyDelete=)
PS. Cold fun.
You need to come skate on our rink - smaller but still enough for a few triple toe loops..and I have wine.

Yeah I couldn't do this, there's no railing to clutch onto...
ReplyDeleteI want to be invited to this party. The rural setting is exactly my type of place. Love the shots...the color of the sky...the motion...the landscape...even the guy w/ the weird beard...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Nicely composed images in less than warm conditions, I'm sure.
I used to enjoy skating, too. But ever since I got an artificial hip two years ago, I realized I would probably never again lace up a pair of skates. Sad, but reality.
Beautiful pictures! I love the ones with the pink sky.
ReplyDeleteDreamy...and you are amazing on ice!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a blast. My kind of day!
Your pics and your family are soooo beautiful!
Do you know why I came over here as fast as I could, swingy hair woman??? Do you??
ReplyDeleteIt was that dang nab WINNER yeh-ah! of a post title.
Dang....I had to find out what/how/who/when happened that you needed a defibrillator.
Woman...or should I say, Paduwan: you have done well.
I shall leave the room now..walking out backwards...bowing all the way.
May the post title force be with you.

Thank you for sharing this! I loved getting to see people ice skating outside. Living down south I've never seen that in my life! I've been to a rink a time or two, but that just looks beautiful to be skating with snow all around! Great shots!
ReplyDeletewhat a perfect winter scene! and were those skates in motion when you took that photo?
ReplyDeletewhat an awesome party! truth - did you have to look up the spelling on the figure skating moves? or are people born with that knowledge in canada?

I would definitely give you points for those trying not to fall moves.
Looks like a lot of fun! What a way to end the New Years. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous - your family, the scene, everything! We were also on the water on NYE, but it was still in liquid form. Winter scenes are just so charming when you never witness them yourself!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely delightful illustrated narrative! And your oldest is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteVery cool - geddit?
ReplyDelete:-)
That looks like such an amazing time - it makes me wish I lived close-by to someone who would have such an insanely huge track of land and their own place to skate!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you all had a lovely day and rang in the New Year the right way. You post had me laughing as usual, especially the part about the defibrillator...I wondered where you were going with that once I read the title!
ReplyDeleteYou are an excellent photographer and I enjoyed reading this first post that I came to as recommended by, well shoot, I can't remember, but glad I found your blog. Thanks for sharing.
