A Promise Is A Promise (no matter how small)

December 12, 2009:
Mom?
Yes?
When are we going to make Gingerbread houses?
Well honey, let's wait until next weekend when Christmas holidays begin.

December 19th, 2009:
Mom?
Yes?
You said we would make Gingerbread houses today.
Well honey, you know it's so busy on the weekend, why don't we wait until Monday; it can be one of our special activities for the holidays.

Mom?
Yes?
Are we going to make Gingerbread houses today?
Well, honey I have just a bit more shopping to do and and an appointment for something called a pedicure.  Mommy hasn't had a pedicure since 1988.  Could you read The Grinch with your eldest sister instead?

Mom?
Yes? When are we going to make the Gingerbread houses?
Well honey, Mommy can't seem to stop looking at her beautiful toes and it has really hindered her packing for the farm; do you think we can make the Gingerbread houses after we come back?  We have a whole week of Christmas holidays afterward and it can be one of our fun activities when we aren't so busy.

. . . and so it goes.

For my youngest, what seems like a year, has passed. OK, well technically a year has passed, but that's beside the point. Hmmm, where was I?  Oh yes... it is the day before school resumes.

January 3, 2010:
Mom?  Sniff, we never made our Gingerbread houses... you saaaaid we would... sniggle, sniff, snurgle.
I look at the clock.  4pm.
Well, honey of course we can make the Gingerbread houses, Mommy just has to get the supplies at the grocery store.
Where's your father?
Downstairs, playing Beatle's Rock Band.
AH-GRONOMIST?
YES?  boom boom cha, boom boom cha
CAN YOU HEAR ME?!
YES!
WHEN YOU'RE FINISHED ROCKIN' OUT, WOULD YOU MIND TAKING SOME HAMBURGER OUT FOR TACO'S?!  I NEED TO QUICKLY GET SOME GROCERIES FOR LUNCHES...and...um...Gingerbread houses.
SURE.......boom boom cha, boom boom...

silence

DID YOU SAAY GINGERBREAD HOUSES?
YES. ..  It's the perfect time to make them.

No worries it will just take a quick trip to the grocery store for some supplies...

Then I'll just whip up some icing.

We'll use graham crackers for cute little mini houses.

They'll have them made lickity split, and still be in bed on time for an early school day tomorrow.

Unless of course the roofs slide off and we have to find a way to help them dry without falling apart...

Hey!  I said lickity split, not lickity lick!

Promises have to be kept.

Especially when...

the result is....

Beautiful Works of Art. . . Beautiful Works of Edible Art.
(hmmm..I wonder if they're starting to dry out?  It's too bad the girls are at school...you see where I'm going here?)

Besides at Bungalow'56

A Promise Is A Promise. . . no matter how small.
